Thank you for joining me in a little piece of my world. I appreciate you being here.
First, I want to start by saying that this writing—and really, much of what I create—isn’t intended to argue a point or change your mind. If it does, that is beautiful and deeply gratifying. If it doesn’t, I hope that at the very least you respect my process, dignity, and autonomy, just as I hope to respect yours.
My name is Liam, and Auryn Vex is the musical identity through which I turn pieces of myself, my questions, my experiences, and my imagination into sound.
I am a songwriter before almost anything else. I write because there are things I don’t know how to leave alone. Love. Grief. Identity. Injustice. Survival. Wonder. Loneliness. Hope. The strange contradictions of being human. The terrifying enormity of the universe and the equally enormous significance we somehow manage to find in the people standing beside us.
Sometimes those things become a quiet acoustic song. Sometimes they become synthesizers, pulsing bass, distorted textures, fiddle, banjo, piano, electronic rhythms, or something that refuses to stay comfortably inside one genre.
Auryn Vex lives somewhere between indie folk, synthpop, folktronica, electronic music, protest music, and whatever else a particular song seems to demand.
I don’t particularly believe art should behave itself.
Why Auryn Vex Exists
Music has always been more than entertainment to me.
It can be memory. Protest. Confession. Mourning. Celebration. Resistance. A question we don’t yet know how to answer.
Sometimes a song gives language to something you’ve carried silently for years. Sometimes it doesn’t explain anything at all—it simply sits beside you and says, Yes. I know this feeling too.
That matters to me.
I live with a brain that is almost constantly examining, questioning, connecting, dismantling, rebuilding, wondering, and occasionally wandering dramatically into the existential wilderness. I think about why people behave the way they do. Why societies accept things they once would have found intolerable. Why compassion comes naturally in one moment and seems impossibly difficult in another. Why we hurt each other. Why we survive each other. Why we love anyway.
Songwriting gives those thoughts somewhere to go.
Auryn Vex is where the internal becomes audible.
What I Believe
I believe compassion matters more than judgment.
I believe curiosity is stronger than certainty.
I believe our convictions should be strong enough to guide us but flexible enough to survive new evidence.
I believe kindness without action can become sentimentality, and action without compassion can become cruelty.
I believe people deserve dignity even when we disagree with them.
I believe staying soft in a world that repeatedly rewards hardness can be an act of defiance.
And I believe being human means accepting that we are unfinished.
We will contradict ourselves. We will discover that something we once believed was incomplete, misguided, or simply wrong. We will hurt people despite intending not to. We will fail our own standards.
What matters is what we do next.
I don’t aspire to ideological purity or moral perfection. I aspire to being principled enough to explain myself, transparent enough to be examined, humble enough to be corrected, and courageous enough to change.
That philosophy inevitably finds its way into my music.
Not every Auryn Vex song will carry a manifesto. Some songs will simply be about falling desperately in love. Some will be about grief. Some may be sensual, ridiculous, mystical, angry, playful, political, romantic, or wonderfully strange.
Human beings contain multitudes.
I see no reason music shouldn’t.
What I Hope Art Can Do
I am less interested in telling you what to think than giving you something worth thinking and feeling about.
That distinction is important to me.
A song does not need to hand you a conclusion. Sometimes the most meaningful art simply opens a door.
You may walk through it and arrive somewhere completely different from where I did.
That’s okay.
In fact, I think that’s beautiful.
Once a song leaves me and reaches you, it develops another life. Your memories attach themselves to it. Your relationships reshape its meaning. A lyric I wrote about one experience may perfectly describe something entirely different in yours.
Art becomes a meeting place between two interior worlds.
I can tell you where a song began.
I cannot dictate where it takes you.
What You’ll Find Here
This website is meant to be more than a place where I tell you that a new song exists and politely ask you to stream it.
You can already find music on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and the rest of the endlessly expanding digital universe.
Here, I want to go deeper.
I want to talk about what inspired the songs.
I want to pull apart lyrics and explain where certain images came from. I want to talk about creative experiments that worked spectacularly and the ones that went careening directly into a metaphorical dumpster.
I want to explore art, technology, society, ethics, identity, creativity, music production, and whatever questions happen to be following me around demanding attention.
Sometimes those conversations may be serious.
Sometimes they may be strange.
Ideally, they will always be sincere.
And somewhere between all of that, I’ll continue making music.
Welcome to the Static
My upcoming album, Sunflowers in the Static, lives deeply inside many of these ideas: finding beauty amid noise, preserving tenderness amid chaos, confronting what hurts, questioning what we’ve inherited, and continuing to become even when the road ahead is uncertain.
The sunflower has become an important image to me because it represents something simple but remarkably difficult:
turning toward the light without pretending the darkness isn’t there.
That is probably as close as I can get to explaining what I hope Auryn Vex ultimately becomes.
Not escapism from reality.
Not surrender to it.
Something in between.
A place where we can acknowledge the grief, absurdity, injustice, terror, beauty, humor, love, and overwhelming strangeness of existence—and still find a reason to make something from it.
Maybe even dance through some of it.
So if you found your way here because of a song, a lyric, a TikTok, a recommendation, an accident, or some benevolent malfunction of the algorithm:
Welcome.
Stay curious.
Stay soft when you can.
Question things.
Feel things.
Change your mind when the evidence asks you to.
Love recklessly but not thoughtlessly.
And if the world becomes unbearably loud, perhaps we can find a little music together somewhere inside the static.
Auriya. ✨
